How to Download the EMT Survey in Excel Format
This article walks through how to export the Emissions Management Tool (EMT) survey to Excel, complete it offline, and import it back into the platform. This is useful for users who prefer to work outside the platform before submitting their final report.
Before You Start
To download and complete the EMT survey offline, you'll need an active account on the EMT Platform. If you haven't set up your account yet, see How to Access the RBA Emissions Management Tool before continuing.
Step 1: Set Up Your Reporting Cycle
- Log in to the EMT Platform.
- Select Emissions Inventory from the left-hand navigation bar.
- Choose a reporting cycle and reporting period.

For guidance on selecting the correct cycle and period for your report, see Emissions Management Tool Reporting Periods.
Once you've selected a reporting cycle and period, your new report will appear in the History section.

Step 2: Export the Survey to Excel
From the History section, you can either:
- Open Report - continue working directly in the platform
- Export Excel - download the survey to complete offline
To work offline, select the three-dot icon next to your report in the History section, then select Export Excel. The survey will download to your computer as an Excel file, where you can answer the questions step by step at your own pace.

Step 3: Import Your Completed Survey
Once you've finished completing the survey offline:
- Return to the Emissions Inventory tab.
- Find your report in the History section and select the three-dot icon.
- Select Import Excel, then choose your completed file.
The platform will automatically populate your survey responses from the Excel file. Once everything looks correct, select Submit Report to finalize your submission and share your information with the customers who have requested it.

Frequently Asked Questions:
- Why might users prefer to work offline?
- Many users choose to complete the survey in Excel for reasons like multi-facility collaboration, internal data privacy or approval processes, or simply a preference for working in Excel. The offline format makes it easy to collaborate with colleagues, save drafts, or work without an internet connection before importing your final answers.
- Can I download the survey without setting up an account?
- No. The survey is only available for download through an active EMT account. This is because the platform needs your account to properly allocate emissions data and share your results with the customers requesting it — functionality that isn't available outside the platform.
- If you'd like to preview what the survey includes before setting up an account, contact helpdesk@responsiblebusiness.org to request a demo of the tool.
