Understanding the Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT)

1. What is the CMRT?

The Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT) is a free, standardized reporting tool developed by the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI). Companies use it to disclose and communicate information about their supply chains related to conflict minerals—specifically tantalum, tin, tungsten, and gold (3TG)—which may originate from conflict-affected and high-risk areas.

The CMRT helps companies meet regulatory requirements (such as the U.S. Dodd-Frank Act) and supports responsible sourcing practices.

2. Who Uses the CMRT?

The CMRT is primarily used by:

  • Manufacturers and suppliers in industries such as electronics, automotive, aerospace, and consumer goods.
  • Compliance teams are responsible for supply chain transparency and due diligence.
  • Suppliers who need to report smelter and refiner information to their customers.

3. How to Use the CMRT

To complete the CMRT:

Download the latest CMRT template from the RMI website: CMRT Template v6.5

Gather supply chain data related to 3TG minerals, including:

  • Supplier names
  • Smelter or refiner details
  • Country of origin

Fill out the template following the official guidance: CMRT Completion Guide

Submit the completed CMRT to your customer or compliance platform as required.
