Understanding the Reasonable Country of Origin Inquiry (RCOI) Report
Table of Contents
The Reasonable Country of Origin Inquiry (RCOI) report is a valuable resource provided by the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI). It offers detailed information about the countries of origin for mined materials sourced from smelters and refiners that adhere to the Responsible Minerals Assurance Process (RMAP). Below is a clear overview of the RCOI report, its access criteria, and its significance.
What is the RCOI Report?
The RCOI report provides information on the country of origin for the mined materials sourced from conformant smelters and refiners. This information is vital for companies as it supports their sourcing decisions and helps demonstrate compliance with the OECD’s Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas.
Access to the RCOI Report
- Active Member Access: Access to the RCOI report is restricted to active members of the RMI, ensuring that only verified and committed members can utilize this essential data.
- Single Point of Contact (POC): Only one person per company can access the system. If the POC needs to be changed, the previous one must be removed before adding a new contact. Please send a request to the RBA Help Desk if the POC needs to be updated.
- Frequency of Updates: The RCOI report is updated bi-monthly, providing the most current and comprehensive information available.
Importance of the RCOI Report
Critical for Smelter Operations: This report is essential for smelter operations, as it aids in identifying the sources of responsibly sourced minerals in the supply chains for tin, tantalum, tungsten, and gold (3TG).
Compliance and Due Diligence: The data assists companies in their efforts to comply with regulations such as the U.S. Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act and the EU Responsible Minerals Regulation.
Distribution of the RCOI Report
Monthly Newsletter: The RCOI report is typically sent to the designated company POC every two months via an email newsletter. This ensures that the contact person receives the latest information directly.
